Filed under: Desktops There's all the makings of a class-A debacle over at AMD headquarters, as it turns out that the chip maker's quad-core Phenom processors are incompatible with some popular motherboard chipsets. Due to a thermal frequency mismatch, the 125-watt 9750 and 9850 CPUs don't play well with 780G-based mobos -- which are designed for AMD's less power-hungry 9600 and 9550 processors. Instead, AMD warns that its quad-core processors should be paired with the company's 790 chipset. Spokesman Jake Whitman blamed PC makers, stating that, "They've taken an enthusiast-class quad-core part and paired it with a mainstream motherboard." Confused yet? Exactly.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

As of two years ago People magazine was raking in a whopping $1.5 Billion in revenue. Much of the magazine is photos of celebrities or other people of interest which others pay simply to flip through. One of the reoccurring (and most popular) features has celebrities wearing some of the worst clothing, picked out especially by the editors--usually with wonderfully snarky commentary.
In the same spirit is RestyleMe, which lets anyone with a mouse pick away at other people's "style" (or your own) in one of ten categories with simple thumbs up and thumbs down voting. Like StumbleUpon, clicking to vote will take you to the next page, although the next person it jumps you to isn't based on any sort of recommendation system. The categories are simple things like hair, teeth and clothing. You can also delve deeper with tattoos, eye wear and facial hair.
What makes the site great is that it's additively simple. One click and you're on to something new. Or you can simply dig deeper and see what other people have voted on for the person you just passed judgment on.
Besides browsing, everyone's photos can be organized in tags. Like a person's style you can vote on tags as well, skimming off the bad ones and promoting the good ones. While I can't imagine myself using this site on a daily basis, it's certainly a lot of fun and brings a human touch to the equation that FaceStat from last week did not.

Look what arrived on our doorstep today! That's right -- the shiny, expensive new iMac that's now equipped with that funky custom and / or overclocked 3.06GHz CPU. Take a look at us wildly unboxing and handling the behemoth in the gallery below, and get a load of its fairly impressive Xbench scores after the break.

TomTom may be having some profit troubles these days, but that's apparently not stopping it from getting plenty of new products out the door, with it now announcing four new models in its TomTom ONE and TomTom XL series, along with a spiffy new car mount to go along with 'em. As before, the TomTom ONE 130 (pictured above) occupies the low end with a 3.5-inch display, though it sports a redesigned and slimmer body this time around, along with a companion model in the form of the ONE 130S, which adds text-to-speech functionality. Moving on up a bit, the TomTom XL 330 boasts a 4.3-inch widescreen display, and is also available in an XL 330S text-to-speech model. Otherwise, all the models will give you support for TomTom's Map Share technology, support for an optional RDS-TMC traffic receiver, and TomTom's new EasyPort mount (pictured after the break), which can be folded away into the device itself. Look for the whole lot to be available next month, with the ONE 130 setting you back $200, the ONE 130S and XL 330 each running $250, and the XL 330S coming in at $300. If none of those float your boat, you can also take a gander at TomTom's previously-announced x30 series devices, which the company informs us are now available in North America.

It seems like Sharp likes to make its electronic dictionary upgrades a yearly occurrence, with the company now trotting out its new RD-CX310 model, a nearly right on time follow-up to its not-very-dissimilar RD-CX300 device. Among the upgrades this time around are a roomier 30GB hard drive, along with DivX support in addition to the usual audio / video formats, 82 dictionaries, 20 audiobooks, an FM tuner, and a voice recorder, plus the same 4.3-inch display as before. No word on a price just yet, but we wouldn't expect it to be too far off the $500 the previous model demanded. [Via Akihabara News]
