1 stars (Disappointing from a nutritional perspective) - Let me start by saying I'm a big Bill Phillips fan. Did he actually write this book, or was his name just slapped on the cover? The recipes are a far cry from what any health conscious person would call "healthy" or even "good food". They are full of pre-packaged ingredients, which contain a ton of hidden fats, sodium, and preservatives. (I'm sure this is why no one bothered to add the nutritional values) Where are the fresh fruits and vegetables? Whatever happened to using common sense in determining a healthful, well-balanced diet? What on earth is a butter bud, and why would I want it in my Body For Life?? I guess this might be a step up for anyone that lives on takeout and has never learned the proper way to prepare a meal, but unless you really enjoy the taste of preservatives, this is probably not the book for you. If you're really committed to healthful living and eating, invest in a good whole foods cookbook instead, and leave this one on the shelf. 5 stars (Excellent advice and recipes) - This book is fantastic. I've been a fan of Bill Philips since reading Body for Life, and Eating for Life takes it one step further. Every recipe I have tried so far has been a success - tasty and easy to make. The dinners are all complete meals, so you don't have to worry about choosing side dishes, etc. The total time to make the meals are listed with each recipe, and so far have been accurate. Many "healthy" cookbooks I have bought in the past seemed like they were not written for real people. The recipes tend to be complex, timely to make, with hard to find ingredients. This book, on the other hand, has recipes that are simple to make, with ingredients you can find at any grocery store. Also, because he uses a lot of the same seasonings in different recipes, it doesn't cost a fortune trying to buy all new spices. Body for Life- 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength

4 stars (Thank you Bill) - The approach presented by Bill Phillips in "Body for Life" worked fine for me. However, the problem is that you have to have a real commitment and a really strong will power to follow the regime presented by the author. Also, in my opinion, there is too much focus on the looks and too little on the health. I think the latter is more important than the former. I have recently found a book that shifts the attention more towards health and overall wellbeing and it gives you no trouble whatsoever to follow simple rules for food combinations, body cleansing etc. Although I have a lot of respect for Bill Phillips as my first coach I think that "Can We Live 150 Year"s is a superior book to "Body for Life". Sorry Bill. 5 stars (My second copy of this book!) - A terrific book and a great program. This book is actually my second copy, since my first copy completely fell apart after so much use. It is truly a fantastic way to get in shape. I had suffered a couple of serious injuries and have been unable to work out much for the last year, but before the injuries I was well on my way to transforming my body for life. Now, I'm mended and ready to start all over again. It's amazing to see how quickly this program changes your body - with much less effort and sacrifice than a lot of other "get fit quick" programs. The eating for life portion of the book is a little tough to follow at times, since I do enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine now and then, but I just modify it, work out a little harder and enjoy my little treat now and then anyway. The free day allows you to eat whatever you want once a week so you don't feel too deprived, but I found that after you start seeing the changes in your body, you'll be reluctant to just pig out. It's nice to treat yourself without feeling guilty. Body for Life for Women- A Woman-s Plan for Physical and Mental Transformation

4 stars (A real tool for attaining health and fitness for life) - Body for Life for Women should be considered an essential guide for women's preventive heath. Because it is focused specifically on the unique health and fitness needs and problems encountered by women, it is much more valuable for women than general health or diet texts. While it promotes a plan of "12 weeks to a fabulous body"; to see it as a mere diet or fitness book sells short its real value. A diet book may help us (temporarily) lose a few pounds; this book aims to show us how to create a healthy body in which we can live independently throughout our lives. As a spokesperson on health, Dr. Peeke is the real thing. She is an expert on the most current understanding of nutrition, preventive health and women's issues. The book is well written, inspiring and accessible. It gives women, especially those of us over 40, real hope and guidance as we wonder why "what we have always done" to stay fit is not working any more. I found especially interesting the section on life milestones, which describes a woman's health priorities at each stage of life. The mind principles, which urge us to examine the attitudes that shape our behavior, are a wake-up call. Dr. Peeke is a big fan of the Nike slogan "Just Do It". In this book, she tells us exactly what it is that we must just do and provides the tools and motivation to keep doing it. 5 stars (You won't believe it!) - I have completed my 12 week program and am astounded by the results. I'm 53 and a dancer but I never thought my body would return to this level of fitness. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't intend to stop my regimen because I feel so good and the weight keeps coming off. I've already added almost six pounds to my muscle mass and my fat percentage is now 23.8%.
