4 stars (Read this book and start thinking) - Great book to get you thinking about your current small business or one that you are planning. This book takes you through the three types of people : technican, entrepreneur, and manager. Guess what you have to be all three and in good balance. Gerber then discusses how to apply the thinking behind a franchise to your own small business even if you have no intention of ever franchising it. He helps you think about your business from a systems point of view. Gerber spends the rest of the book talking about the business development process, which includes your primary aim, marketing strategy, systems strategy, people strategy, management strategy, etc. I have run a small consulting business for 5 years and I wish had read this book years ago. Oh well, never too late to get on track. 5 stars (Don't Own A Business Without It) - Michael Gerber is the best thing that ever happened to the small business owners of this world. Reading this book changed the way I thought about business. Today I am a marketing coach for professional service firms and small service business owners. One of the first books I recommend they devour is The E-Myth. Actually, I recommend everything Gerber has written. 4 stars (It was as if M Gerber had been watching me) - A great, easy to read book with powerful principles told in an acessible manner. 5 stars (It has help) - This book is awesome. It has help me in many ways. The book has opened up my eyes and everything seems to be clear. I recommend this to everyone even if your not going through tough times. You can can see other people's expereince through this book. In somewhat ways everyone has expereince differently. 3 stars (Life Is Not a Bowl of Cherries.) - Most of us get all worked up about things which, upon closer examination, aren't really that big a deal. We focus on little problems and concerns and blow them out of proportion. One example is a minor problem in traffic when a stranger cuts in front and perhaps causes a near accident. We convince ourselves that we are justified in our anger. The other day, Jeff followed my directions to turn right, without looking to his left. A car was right up on him but, since no one was in the approaching lane, she was able to get over. Then she forced him off the road. I told him not to get out of the car as that was road rage. The woman gave him a good lecture, then cooled down when I said, "He's from Nashville. He didn't know where he was." Road rage and running through red lights are the things to do in this town. Do not worry about little things. Instead of "sweating the small stuff," take time to contemplate a solution. You'll have a lot more energy to be kinder and gentler. When your mind is clear and peaceful and your stress level is reduced, you'll have more fun. When your stress is small, it's manageable and easy to control. We all have high (optimistic about the future and grateful for the past)) and low, negative moods (life is never as bad as it seems at that time). In a low mood, you feel that your whole life is wrong. In a good mood, everything seems to go much better. Life is never fair. It should be, but it's not and it won't be someday. 5 stars (Good Read & Indsepensible) - I can't say how many times this book has come in handy. I am in the military stationed far from Mom and the rest of my family. It certainly saved on my long distance! 5 stars (Review by first time mom!) - I found this book to be especially useful in the first few months of my baby's birth. From my exprience these first few months can be quite daunting simply becasue everything is so new. The slightest thing is cause for concern and there were questions all the time. This book provided me answers to all of them. Like the sudden crying bouts in the evening which may not necessarily be attributed to colic (i knew this after reading the entire section on colic - which was an eye opener!) or the spit ups and what to make of them based on their texture. My daughter had blood in her [...] and her [...] were engorged after birth. Of course I thought the worst! The book explained why and that it was perfectly normal. Boy was I relieved! One night I awoke to find my 2 1/2 month old baby with a stuffed nose and having a hard time breathing. There were some excellent home remedies recommended in this book for such a situation. Of course at the the time I simply called my doctor. But I later found that the same solution offered by my doctor was in the home remedy section of the book. I promptly read all the home remedies suggested. There is also a wonderful section on breastfeeding, expressing milk, what kind of pump to buy etc. Baby's grandparents really wanted me to feed her water in case she was dehydrated. I needed only to refer them to the relevant page which tells you why it needen't be given. I found the bits on how to tell if baby is getting enough breastmilk to be most useful too. You can never tell especially if you're feeding on demand. Just to highlight how comprehensive this book is, it also had some great advice on how to deal with baby's well meaning but overbearing grandparents. There is also other basic information... 4 stars (Excellent Condition) - The book i received was in excellent condition, it was listed under the used section, but when i received it, it was still in the original packing. The only problem was the CD was missing somehow, no big deal. 5 stars (great pits) - When I first used this book in undergrad I did not like it very much, however, in medical school, I found this book to be a huge asset. It is great for someone who learns visually and condenses all the info on to a few pages, my medical school bio chem book took 30 pages to explain what this book does in a few. Also, I like the way this book is organized, it seems to flow.... the only chapter that seemed to need a little work was nucliotide mab.. Undergrad texts seem to stress more chemistry and enzyme mechanics, while med school will stress inh points. Also, photosythesis is not covered in med school, vitamins are not covered in this text 2 stars (Difficult to use) - This was the biochemistry book for my undergraduate course, but I hardly used it because it is not written in clearly understood language. It does have a glossary which is useful for looking up definitions, but when I would go to the index to clarify something we learned in class, chances were none of the references would apply to the concepts I was looking for, and if it did, it was incomprehensible. The general consensus among my classmates was that the book was worthless. The only useful feature is the end of chapter problems, and the solutions to these are found at the end of the book. I understand Lippincotts biochem is supposed to be pretty good, so you may want to investigate that if you are looking for a biochemistry book. ... 5 stars (For Women) - My husband wans't very interested in this particular book because he said "he already knew everything he needs to know". I think I should have bought a more fairytale type book as I think it makes him nervous to hear about anything that can go wrong with his first baby! 5 stars (Wonderful for first time moms-to-be!) - This is an excellent reference for first time moms-to-be, chock full of scientific explanations and situational questions that cover all the bases. And it is the only book my OB recommended! 5 stars (The Mommy Bible) - This is a WONDERFUL book! My husband got it for me with our first baby, and what a life saver it was. I brought it with me wherever I went. Anytime I felt anything strange, I would look it up in this book and there was my answer. Now we are expecting our second baby and I'm using it again. It's a great book for rookie parents or experienced ones. I highley recommend it. 4 stars (Really - Quite Good!) - I've been using TechTools utilities (including Drive 10) for years. I have always found TechTools to be a great utility product for the Mac. TechTools Pro 4 (4.0.6) meets that standard. Easy to use, a beautify interface, and fast. It was fab for routine maintenance including opt-ing drives. The eDrive (which is a relatively new feature) was a bit confusing, but once I ogt a handle on its function and purpose, it was a breeze. Since I have a small hard drive (only 40 G), I elected to install the eDrive on a separate USB Iomega mini-drive. It worked great and I feel comfortable with the fact that I have a separate start up drive when the ultimate harm (a crashed drive) strikes. To conclude, I would recommend this product. 1 stars (Not Ready For Prime Time) - Completely hosed the 250 GB HD on my new 20" iMac. Drive had to be replaced by Apple. Takes forever to boot from the CD and the fan operates at an extremely high rate. Tests seem to take forever to run and resulted in a drive that wouldn't mount and couldn't be reformatted, S.M.A.R.T. reported the drive damaged. It is a shame as I have used the product in the past and found it to effective and reliable. Currently, I am using Prosoft's Drive Genius which has fewer features, but seems much more reliable. 1 stars (Steer clear) - I wish I had read these reviews before buying Techtool Pro. It seems rather like a defective product. I had a drive that wouldn't mount, and TTP recognized it, and acted like it could recover it, but when I switched from "Drive" mode to "Volume" mode, the drive was no longer visible to the software, so it wouldn't perform any tests. (In Drive mode, the problem drive passed all the hardware tests multiple times) I executed the data recovery routine (which took literally all night to run on my 40GB drive, and it found 700+ arbitrary recoverable files from the thousands I had on the drive. It didn't retain the filenames, so it was a crapshoot when recoverin... 5 stars (Term Sheet Language Reference Book) - This short book does an excellent job of outlining each section of a term sheet for a typical venture capital financing. Each term sheet section is briefly described and examples are given of investor favorable, company favorable and middle of the road language. It is not at all useful, however, for venture capital valuations. 5 stars (The Book Every Management Team, VC & Lawyer Should Have) - This is by far the most widely used title by every venture capitalist. I would highly recommend this book to every vc, lawyer, and management team member (especially) of every company looking to obtain venture financing. You could not find better advice on negotation points, changes to wording or overall guidance on a term sheet than Wilmerding's advice in this book. Especially look at Chapter 3 where Wilmerding goes through line by line what every parapraph means on a term sheet.
